About Therapeutic Yoga

Blend of restorative yoga (a more relaxing and energy restoring movement), gentle yoga, breath work and meditation

The approach adopted by therapeutic yoga is twofold – prevention and restoration. It aids in the recovery from physical and mental illnesses. Then it works on preventing it from occurring again. Therapeutic yoga requires individual attention. Therapeutic yoga is an adaptation of yoga that applies yogic principles and methods to heal various human ailments. Therapeutic yoga is preventive as well as restorative.

Using the above mentioned integrated therapeutic yoga practice can benefit:

  • strengthening and toning
  • anxiety
  • stress
  • depression
  • lowering blood pressure
  • relieving chronic headache & migraine
  • auto immune diseases

Benefits of therapeutic yoga are attainable with personalized training. Not all yoga poses are suitable or beneficial for everyone. That is why some people attempting yoga to heal themselves can end up with more painful conditions in a  group class.

My Yoga Philosophy

KINTSUGI is a famous beautiful Japanese art where broken pieces of fragile pottery are mended with powdered gold to make it more beautiful, stronger and valuable!!
I strongly preferred this word although it was not catchy or fancy, but it was most appropriate for my work ethic. I want my work to carry the same concept of resilience, strength and grace. A persons imperfections and flaws can be embraced and overcome no matter how brutally broken one might get in life’s journey.

Bio

Hello, I’m Asema Khan – Welcome to Kintsugi Yoga! Here I offer you tools to help you on your journey towards better health and wellness.
When you can't control what's happening. Challenge yourself to control the way you respond to what is happening. That is where the growth is.

I understood the above words and could clearly relate to them after I got introduced to Yoga. I was living my life quite contented with my self taught life perceptions, which I had gathered through my years of life but all just seemed to crash with my recognizing one single reality of life, which I now believe I was ignoring, to escape trauma and a total fiasco of my life perceptions. I was desperate for some outside connection to give me some sort of consolation but nothing seemed to be working. When at last I connected to myself for a moment only in one of my meditations or mindfulness times. That was the very first time I actually was able to recognize my subconscious mind. In that moment of pure achievement, I was feeling down depressed and useless and I could not recognize all that but it had always been there haunting me stagnating my growth, deeply buried in my subconscious.

Transformation

My journey had already begun with my Yoga practice I had shed most of my extra kilos gotten rid of an auto immune disease recognized my food allergies and now recognition of this subconscious belief put me on a new path of enhancing and experiencing life.I now accept life as experiencing situations and responding to all situations aligned to my real self, which I was able to connect with, cause of the yoga practices. My aim is to help and offer all touching my life, with their real self, which at times we lose overloaded by our enviroments and other influencers around us.

About Yoga

According to ancient yoga philosophy, humans consist of an integrated mind-body-soul system. For optimum health and well-being, this system must be in balance and harmony. Therefore a yogic approach to therapy and healing is holistic including postures for the body, pranayama(breaths) for the internal systems, meditation and energy work for the mind and hormonal health. Adopting the practice I experienced physical , emotional and mental transformation.

Nutrition

I guide students with nutritional tips to help them make healthy but practical changes in their diet leading to a better lifestyle. I have learnt experiencing the impact of food groups and believe that our body is basically what  we eat. 99% of the ailments can be cured by mindful eating habits. Specially the most widespread acid reflux issues, joint pains, diabetes and autoimmune diseases.

We often live with the idea of inheriting ailments but with experience I have come to believe that we can use those inheritance traits to live a healthier life. If we  recognize our family health tendencies, we can smartly equip ourselves and train ourselves to combat those weaker health areas instead of accepting the tendency as our fate.

I had been interested in taking yoga classes for some time, and I'm so glad I took a chance with Asema. The classes were very collaborative, with Asema taking note of my requirements as well as offering her suggestions about how best to go forward with the practice. They helped me recognize the parts of my body that need work like my poor posture, as well as ways I could reduce my anxiety through breathing exercises. But more so, the classes helped me see my body in a new light as an extension of who I am, still capable of turning in unexpected way. I’m grateful for the lessons I took with Asema. A lot of what has helped me build a better foundation for when I practice yoga at home.

I needed to practice yoga to help ground me and ease feelings of anxiety. I was also suffering from stubborn lower back pain as well as a stubborn attitude of "do more" to the point where it would start causing my body to send warning signs to me in the form of aches and pains. Asema taught me to really listen to my body and strengthen it rather than constantly taxing it. Ironically I feel I have gotten closer to my fitness goals since I followed her "take it easy" advice!! I have also greatly benefitted from her calming breathing techniques as well as the silent time meditation. I actually look forward to the part of my day where I indulge in proper therapeutic yoga to ease my mind, body and spirit.
